About the Marder III Ausf M:

Marder III was the name for a series of WWII German tank destroyers. The III series had a more refined purpose-driven look with a stable chassis, mounting four road wheels to a side. They were mounted with either a Soviet 76mm F-22 Model 1936 divisional field gun, or a German 7.5cm PaK 40, on top of the Panzer 38(t) chassis. The Marder III offered little protection to the crew, but added significant firepower compared to contemporary German tanks. Production of the Marder III ran from 1942 to 1944 and served on all fronts until the end of the war.

This Marder III variant was based on the Geschützwagen 38(t) Ausf. M, a vehicle for self-propelled gun use. The Ausf. M offered significant improvements over previous models with its lower silhouette, sloped armor and much more functional fighting compartment. It was adequate in the ambush role, fixed defensive role or calibrated offensive artillery role from a distance. The fighting compartment could be lowered down to the bottom of the floor level, which decreased crew exposure, as well as visibility. Combat effectiveness was increased since the vehicle commander was freed from manning the gun.

The M4 Sherman was the workhorse medium tank of US and western Allied forces during World War II. Armed with a multi-purpose 75mm gun that could fire both high-explosive and anti-tank rounds, it ruled the battlefield when first introduced. About the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 F-8:

The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 F-8 is a German single-seat, single-engine fighter aircraft designed by Kurt Tank in the late 1930s and widely used during WWII. About the M1A1 155mm Howitzer:

The M1 155mm Howitzer was one of the main “Heavy” guns used by the US Army during World War II (M1A1 specifically refers to the most common carriage type mated to the M1 Howitzer). This powerful weapon was to destroy buildings, entrenchments and moderately dug-in artillery pieces. Its high arcing fire made it ideal for neutralizing enemy in defilade positions. There were 163 battalions equipped with the 155mm Howitzer during World War II, making it the third numerous type after the lighter 105mm and 75mm howitzers. It’s ability to fire a 100-pound shell in excess of 16000 yards, plus a sustained a rate of fire eight rounds per minute, gave the 155mm howitzer a much more powerful punch than its smaller cousins. The effectiveness of the 155mm howitzer is often cited as a major factor in Allied victory in Europe and its modern-day equivalent (M777) still provides the back bone of US artillery support to this day.

The North African campaign of WWII took place in North Africa from June 10, 1940 to May 13 1943. It included campaigns fought in the Libyan and Egyptian deserts, and in Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia. The campaign was fought between the Allies and Axis powers, many of whom had colonial interests in Africa dating back from the late 19th century. Fighting began with the Italian declaration of war on June 10, 1940. On June 14, the British Army’s 11th Hussars crossed the border from Egypt into Libya and captured the Italian Fort Capuzzo. Information gleaned via British Ultra code-breaking intelligence proved critical to Allied success in North Africa. Victory for the Allies in this campaign immediately led to the Italian campaign, which ultimately culminated in the downfall of the fascist government in Italy and the elimination of a German ally.

About the AH-1W SuperCobra:

The Bell AH-1 SuperCobra is a twin-engine attack helicopter based on the United States Army’s single-engine AH-1 Cobra. The Marine Corps wanted a greater load carrying capability in high temperatures for the Cobra during the 1970s. Background of the Avenger AN/TWQ-1 HMMWV

The Avenger is a mobile, short-range anti-aircraft system mounted on the M998 and M1097 HMMWV chassis. Its primary mission is to provide mobile protection against cruise missiles, helicopters and low-flying fixed wing aircraft. It is armed with two pods of four Stinger ground-to-air missiles, plus a coaxial .50 cal M3P Machine Gun for secondary armament. The Avenger has a built-in infra-red tracking system and laser ranger-finder, but can also be subordinated to fire on cue from the Forward Area Air Defense Command, Control, Communications and Intelligence (FAAD C3I) system. The Avenger was first successfully deployed during Operation Desert Storm and has subsequently been used by US forces in Bosnia, Afghanistan and Operation Iraqi Freedom. More than 1000 Avengers have been built since the late 1980’s and several variants have been developed during the proceeding years.
